Design

Marine Classics boat designs benefit from the latest computer aided boat design programs. This gives several major advantages.

Firstly it allows us to bring the benefits of modern construction techniques to classic boats - giving a stronger more reliable, safer boat with much  lower maintenance requirements than a traditionally built boat.

Secondly it allows for a great deal of flexibliity to suit the customer's requirements. All of our boats are custom built to a particular specification. The use of computer aided design allows us to fine tune a boat  to suit - efficiently without a large on-cost.

Thirdly it gives us the capability to produce completely unique custom boats in house. A copy of an older boat, or your own design can be tested on the computer and then made by us.

Ordering and Delivery

Marine Classics boats are not kept in stock like a mass production boat. Each one is individually hand built for a particular customer. Therefore there can be a waiting time of several months.

The payments are met in three stages; 25% on ordering, 50% on construction of your hull , balance before delivery.

Build

Most models are available with your choice of wooden or fibreglass hulls.

On solid wooden boats, the hull is laminated from several layers of mahogany, with kevlar and carbon fibre reinforcement. The topsides are around 15mm thick and the bottom 18mm.

If a fibreglass hull is required this can be provided at the same cost.

The whole boat is encapsulated in epoxy and polyurethane resins, inside and out. This acts like a gel coat, but is stronger and more waterproof.

The deck is traditionally planked - on a waterproof laminated base, though other options are available. The topsides and stern are mahogany on wooden hulled boats. (or a fibreglass hull  if requested)

The engines are generally under the hatch on the after deck, see details of each model for engine options.

The finish is protected by many layers of protective coating similar to that on metallic car paint. For long life with low maintenance.

The construction techniques used are similar to those used to produce aircraft and racing craft, giving a very high strength to weight ratio.

The stiffness and thickness of the hull is much greater than a typical boat, but it is lighter.
